The future looks 'brite' for Llandudno-born rally star, Matt Edwards, after clinching round 1 of the 2020 British Rally Championship on home turf and now signing a sponsorship deal with Welsh road safety innovation company, Road Safety Designs.

The 35-year-old Welshman along with co-driver Darren Garrod won the season opener - the Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally - by 38.4 seconds. He was set to follow suit in round 2 - the Clonakilty Park West Cork Rally - before it was postponed following government advice on large-scale events.

Best known for the BriteAngle LED Warning Triangle, Road Safety Designs went from strength to strength last year, having won multiple awards and securing a significant contract with Australian distributor, Dometic.

2019 British Rally Champion, Matt Edwards, said: "Like in any sport, safety is of paramount importance in the world of rallying, so it seemed like a natural fit to team up with Road Safety Designs and I'm extremely grateful for their support

"I can think of more than one occasion when the BriteAngle would have been particularly useful during my career. It's compulsory for every rally car to carry a warning triangle, which should be used if the car has to stop. When you're traveling at high speed on challenging roads, the chances of you seeing the red flashing LED lights of the BriteAngle are considerably higher than seeing a standard reflective warning triangle."

Road Safety Designs Commercial Director, Carol Gillanders, said: "It's been a sensational few years for Matt, so we're delighted that he's come on board as our first ever BriteAngle Ambassador. We all know that, like many sports, rallying comes with its own risks, so to hear how passionate Matt is about road safety is inspiring. We will work with him to help spread the word about the importance of carrying a warning triangle in every vehicle which sadly, isn't a legal requirement in the UK as it is in many other countries."

The BriteAngle LED Warning Triangle is designed to make the motorist much more visible in the event of an unexpected stop, using flashing, high-intensity LEDs to warn drivers of hazards up to 300 metres away. Drivers can place the warning triangle directly behind their vehicle, enabling it to be seen more clearly, reducing the risk of an accident and making it much safer for themselves, their passengers and other road users.

Also endorsing the Welsh invention is well-known rallying co-driver to the late Colin McRae, Nicky Grist: "As soon as I saw the BriteAngle, I knew it would transform safety for rallying as one of the benefits it has over other warning triangles is that it can be seen in daylight hours, which is when almost all events happen in the UK. I'm sure Matt and I can both encourage more people to keep one in their vehicles, as I've been so impressed that I'm now stocking BriteAngle and people can purchase them at nickygrist.com!"
