TOYOTA LEAN MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

Peter McArdle

Peter McArdle is Senior Manager responsible for Production Control (PC) and Toyota Lean Manufacturing Centre (TLMC). Peter has 20 years' Toyota experience across a number of technical and production functions. During his career he has primarily been located at Deeside engine plant, but has also spent a number of years at the Burnaston vehicle plant as well as time spent overseas working for Toyota Motor Corporation (Japan).

Peter will be sharing how the Toyota Lean Management Centre (TLMC) helps non-competitive organisations learn Toyota's ways of working (tools & culture) increasing their competitiveness through driving continuous improvement.
Reflecting on the last 3 years engagement with Welsh companies Peter will explain how TLMC's engagement model will be adapted incorporating learning from a highly successful program of support in Ireland.


WHY ENGAGE WITH THE TOYOTA LEAN MANAGEMENT CENTRE?


Professor Dr. Richard Keegan
BE, Ceng(r), MComm, Phd, FIEI(r)

Richard Keegan is a specialist in the areas of Lean/World Class Business and Benchmarking.  His concept of developing a three tier approach to company development has been adopted as a national approach to support the development of competitiveness in Irish industry, and is known as the Lean Business Offer.  Over 1,100 company projects were supported for Enterprise Ireland clients during his leadership.  His approach has been adopted by the Industrial Development Authority and an adapted version is currently being rolled out across the country for Micro companies.  He has worked previously for DAF Trucks, Nokia, Nestle and the ESB.

 

Working with Toyota, Richard has led over 80 best practice missions for over 2,000 managers to the Deeside engine plant, and will talk to us about his experiences and the benefits of engaging with the TLMC.


WELSH GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

Phil Catherwood
Welsh Government

Phil Catherwood is a Senior Strategy Manager within the Welsh Government's High Value Manufacturing team which sits in the Industrial Transformation Division.  Preceding roles include Senior Innovation Manager and Business Development Manager, developing and managing business support interventions including the Six Sigma Wales programme, industry best practice visits and a leadership challenge programme.  Prior to joining the public sector, Phil worked in manufacturing for 20 years with Tata Steel, ASW and Sony. 

 

Phil will provide an overview of the Welsh Government support provided to companies who embark on the Toyota Lean Management journey.


NATIONAL MANUFACTURING COMPETITIVENESS LEVELS (NMCL)

Steve Collins
SMMT

Steve Collins has worked for the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) for six years.  He has led two automotive competitiveness programmes, LTASC and NMCL.  Utilising £16m of government funding, NMCL Automotive helps to improve competitiveness within the supply chain. Steve joined the SMMT from the Royal navy where he was a Warfare Officer.


Steve will provide an insight into the NMCL, how to apply and why companies should take advantage of this programme.
