WAF member sales and jobs rise

WAF member GSM Primographic has resumed recruiting staff to meet new orders.

It is a first-tier automotive parts manufacturer supplying directly to trackside throughout Europe for many of the best known international automotive brands.
The products made in Brecon include specialist high performance labeling, exterior decals and interior cosmetic trim. Its decals are used on the MGTF ( above).
Throughout late 2008 and into 2009 GSM experienced a down turn in its business activity as a result of the reduction in global economy.
General Manager Andrew Farthing advised that there had been redundancies, pay cuts and a four day working week.
However, throughout this period the factory demonstrated tremendous flexibility as customer schedules changed on an almost daily basis.
During 2008 and 2009 GSM introduced existing and new products and systems to current and prospective customers to increase its impressive list of OEM vendor numbers.
Adding products such as body decals and functional film surface protection to its existing portfolio showed GSM was able to demonstrate alternative products, gaining interest and access to design centres.
Throughout this period GSM added BMW Mini and MG Motor Group to its extensive list of Original Equipment Manufacturer vendor numbers and increased its product range with a number of existing customers.
With the help of the Welsh Assembly Government PRO-ACT scheme the company has been able to both cross-train and up-skill the workforce this year.
This has given GSM Primographic a significant advantage as output has begun to increase driven by the European vehicle ‘scrappage’ incentives and it has started recruiting new staff to keep up with demand.
During 2009 GSM was also recognised as Manufacturing Company of the Year within Powys showing the remarkable job its 50 team members achieved in preserving as many jobs as possible and increasing exports in a very difficult year for automotive companies worldwide.
